Millicent is a bright light even after immense grief. She needs someone like you to help her complete her education at Daraja Academy. 

Millicent has found hope through the darkest time in her life. And her story is just getting started. At Daraja, she will receive the counseling she needs to cope with the grief in her life, complete her high school education, and achieve her dreams. With your support, she will complete her secondary education and have the chance to pursue higher education. 

Millicent is from Nanyuki, where she grew up the youngest of three girls. In 2016, her world turned upside-down when her mother passed away from colon cancer. Just two years later, her father died of throat cancer. Millicent then moved in with her grandmother but struggled to accept her parents’ deaths. 

“It was hard for me to accept that I would live without my parents. They were my role models.”

Millicent says she’s had a lot of emotional support in the last couple of years and has learned to rise beyond her grief. She shares her experience with other orphans and tries to help them see that losing their parents “is not the end of their lives. They need to move and fight on.” Millicent loves being at Daraja and says that education empowers girls and creates tomorrow’s leaders. Her goal is to become a doctor and help people like her parents who need access to medical care. 

Your donation will lay Millicent’s foundation. She will know who you are and share her personal ups and downs with you three times a year. You will receive a short biography, her student photo and she will become a part of your life. It only costs $220 each month to give Millicent everything she needs to succeed: her uniform and school supplies, room, board, and the best medical care available.
