The Daraja girls were all hugs and cheers yesterday afternoon after their football team came first in the zone. This allows the team to compete in the district tournament in Nanyuki next weekend!

Daraja took their first game against the host school, Il Polei, 2-0. Hadija and Lillian from Form 3 scored early in the first half to secure Daraja’s win. Their second match against St. Francis girls’ school ended in a 1-1 draw with Gitwa from Form 2 scoring the goal that made it even. The Daraja goaltender, Jamaica, made some incredible saves during the tie game; as did her sister Malaysia, who was in net for St. Francis.

The Daraja volleyball team played some incredible matches against Il Polei and St. Francis, but was unable to secure the first-place spot required to move on. Nurse Jacinta, who helps coach the team, said they had learned a lot from the officials and their competitors and will continue working together to come out even stronger next year.

The teams also played friendly matches against nearby Loise Nanyuki Girls’ School on Wednesday afternoon. The football team won 4-1, and the volleyball team took one of three matches. Many students who don’t play on either team were there to cheer on Daraja and enjoy some time off, having just completed three days of midterms.

It was a busy week on campus with sports, midterms, saying goodbye to a few volunteers and welcoming new ones. Congratulations to all the girls – their hard work has paid off, once again!
