What does it mean to sponsor a Daraja student?
Daraja is a boarding school where all of the girls’ academic, health, and welfare needs are taken care of. This works out to be $220 a month or $2,500 a year. As a student sponsor, you will receive a letter 3 times a year from your student to see how your student is growing and changing at Daraja.
A Daraja sponsorship covers
- school uniforms
- academic supplies
- a full math set and calculator
- athletic apparel
- team uniforms
- three healthy meals a day
- all-in medical, vision, and dental health coverage- this is often the first real medical care these girls receive.
- academic field trips and outings to debate competitions, drama productions, and sports competitions.
- And because Daraja students come from homes of trauma, sponsorship allows students access to two Daraja alumni who work full-time as trained counselors to support them emotionally on this life-changing journey.
$220 per month not only pays for the answer to a girl’s biggest prayer, but it also changes her life on a generational level. 90% of Daraja girls go on to college or university. They often choose to support their family afterward and cover the costs of educating younger siblings. Essentially, a Daraja sponsorship equals a diploma or degree as well as the priceless opportunity to lift an entire family out of generational poverty.
