Shortly after Tina‘s twin sister reported to high school in 2009, her father began feeling pressure from the local Maasai community to arrange her marriage. Though only 14, the family had lost their livestock to drought and were out of options. Fortunately that same year Daraja opened its doors, and Tina joined the pioneer Class of 2012. She was a diligent student, excelled on the soccer pitch, and gained confidence in weekly WISH classes, Daraja’s empowerment program.
Tina scored well on her KCSE (12th grade) national exams and joined Moi University in Eldoret where she met law student and her husband-to-be, Charles.
While attending university and after, Tina became a trusted voice of reason for her family and helped many younger relatives finish their education. When tribal violence peaked, she built and moved her widowed mother to a new home in a safer area. Today, Tina is thriving in Nakuru where she is a lecturer (professor) at Rift Valley Fr Institute of Science and Technology and Charles practices law. Together they are raising their happy, precious, three year old daughter, Tiffany.
