According to Kenya Cancer Network, breast cancer causes about 7% of deaths among women per year. Women face a higher risk of breast cancer than men. The exact cause of breast cancer is unknown. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer is caused by damage to a cell’s DNA.
Some symptoms of breast cancer include: a lump found in the breast; one of the nipples has discharge; a rash around or on one of the nipples.
Prevention of breast cancer according to the Kenya Cancer network include:
- Limiting alcohol consumption
- Not smoking
- Physical exercise
- Breast cancer screening
- Breast feeding
- Exercising to control weight gain
- Avoid exposure to radiation and environmental pollution
People should be aware of breast cancer in order to know the appropriate steps to take. It is better if cancer is detected earlier. I encourage all Kenyan women to try and have a breast cancer screening. Together we can fight breast cancer.
