It is very irritating to see people suffering from hunger and there is a way to control it. It is better to prevent than to cure. Giving people relief food is more expensive than teaching them how to produce and utilize their food properly.
Drought and famine is the major thing causing poverty in Kenya. To prevent Drought we need to get united as a country, plant trees and take care of them. For those who do not know the importance of trees and how they help in the environment. I know there are people who depend on trees as a source of energy. There are other sources of energy. Solar energy is the cheapest, if one buys a solar lamp he can use it for more than ten years. Electricity can be used in other practices like cooking.
There are other months where we have a lot of rain that even cause flooding. It is not realistic for a country to have drought and sometimes floods. If ever family can acquire storage tanks that will be storing water during the rainy season. In every village there should be a big tank that stores water, thereby storing water during the rainy season. If there is floods there should be people appointed to fetch the water and store them in the tanks. For purification of water, biosands filters should be introduced. The biosand filter will help filtering the water without introducing chemicals in water thus making the water not harmful to human health.
Minimizing water should also be practiced. Therefore water should be used sparingly. The water taps should be closed after every open.
To prevent famine it’s just by practicing agriculture. I know Kenya is an agricultural country. We can improve the production of food by putting more land into use. Other that that we can introduce crop rotation. Crop rotation will help in maximizing nutrients used, control pests, and disease and improve soil fertility. If you plant maize in this year the next year you plant beans it will control soil born pests and diseases, because there are pests that can attack those crops together with maize and not with beans.
Soil fertility is very important to know. By knowing the type o soil, you are able to know the suitable crop that fits in a place. We are able to control the pests and diseases and choose the suitable fertilizers to be used. The climate of a place also determines that quality of products produced because there are some plants which do well in hot areas and those that do well in cool areas. The type of seed used also determine the maturing the products produced. This is because there are those seeds which mature faster than the others. A farmer is required to choose the type of seeds to use after he/she knows the type of soil, availability of pest and diseases and the germination of the seed.
The government is required to implement rule that will govern the people. It is required to construct the roads to help in transportation of seeds and agricultural produce, and security of the farmers. By all that, there will be good market forces.
To improve all those things there must be education. Mass education should be introduce in every county, and in high school should be made compulsory.
When all possible solutions will be practiced, we are going to raise the economy of Kenya. We will reduce poverty Kenya and we will be a country of change.
I will be grateful if Kenya will change.
