Leadership means seeing the world through a wide angle lens, no matter what position you are in. It’s critical for leaders to balance short and long term thinking and execution to ensure that they are ready for challenges directly ahead, as well as the ones coming around the corner and down the road. The society is in need of leaders or volunteers who can see the danger of the intimidating the girl child, as they lead our families or organisations. They need to lead today as they look for tomorrow, invest for tomorrow, and lay foundations for tomorrow.
Who is ready to invest in a girl child through mentoring and naturing and empowering the women. When I talk of mentorship and empowerment to the young generation, not many really understand. What I have learnt for the past eight years is that my aunt started a leadership journey. A couple of years later she was still involved with leadership, as a youth leader in her church and as the chairlady of the church. All these years she has interacted with thousands of the young people and learnt a lot. The challenges that she is advocating for is the danger that is ahead of her. The tomorrow is facing a challenge of having strong and courageous women who can stand as either firm public leaders or ideal family. A girl who can stand in front of a school parade and develop a speech which could help many people to learn a word from her. Truly she is a leader.
We have lived in a community that has the mindset of “blame game” and taking others as the ones that hinder us from achieving or accomplishing the change we need. The right thinking woman moves out of the petty thinking, and decides to take up the challenge and fight for change. Education is the key to success which leads to many leaders in the world, especially women. But, don’t relax in anything even if it is small like an atom. Girls are taught to be brave, brilliant, leaders and more. Don’t take small things for granted, as those small things may teach you a lesson. I believe that future is brighter than my past and that I have the ability to help others see the same.
I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but our disposition. I urge my fellow students: don’t wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you’ve got to make yourself and happiness is not something ready already. It comes from your own actions. Keep people in your life who truly love you, motivate you, encourage you, and make you happy. If you know people who do none of these things let them go.
Educating a girl child is like educating the whole world and a girl child can do what a boy child can do if only she is given a chance. So, everywhere you go, my fellow students, get inspired before you expired and remember that hard work never goes unrewarded.
