It Takes Two People To...
Have you ever sat down to imagine how life would be if you got pregnant now? Teenage pregnancy is the state of having a baby developing inside a teenager. It is stated that for every 1,000 girls in Kenya 96 girls conceive each day. Just imagine yourself in the shoes of the 96 teenagers?
What are the causes of teenage pregnancy then? It is caused by lack of access to sexual and reproductive health education and services. It is also caused by sexual violence, such as rape. The effects of teenage pregnancy are hazardous and tragic. According to the World Health Organization, each year 50,000 teenagers between the age of fifteen and twenty-one die of early abortion. Teenage pregnancy also leads to school dropouts and stigmatization from the family and society. The increased rate of pregnancy leads to increased population growth, which affects the government of a country.
There is no problem in this world without a solution. That is why we humans are called ‘intellectual beings.’ According to Kristen Solter Anderson, “thoughtful education programs and access to effective forms of contraception are key to preventing unplanned pregnancy.” But the best solution is abstinence. Just as it is said, “prevention is better than a cure.”
Just remember that it takes two people to cause a pregnancy, but it takes only one to prevent it. What is worse? Telling him to wait or telling him you are pregnant? Sex has consequences. You never understand this until it grows inside of you.
