What the Maasai Funeral Ritual Entails

The ritual begins four days before the burial with the slaughter of a bull for his age mates and other elders who will bless his body. A cleansing ceremony of the family will also be conducted during the process. Fat from the bull will be used for his send-off ritual with some of it applied on his body by his sons when it is brought home for burial.
