Meet Mary - Our New Dorm Matron!
By Jessica Bundage
Daraja Academy is happy to welcome it’s newest member, Mary Avosa, as our new dorm matron!
Mary is originally from the town of Kitale, in the Western part of Kenya, and is a member of the Maragoli tribe. She is the oldest of six siblings. As the oldest child, she had many family responsibilities, which intensified following the death of her father. After finishing secondary school, she attended Kobujoi Development Training Institute where she studied Social Work. Mary worked as a social worker in public primary schools and NGOs for several years. She also worked as a matron in an orphanage for seven years. While Mary was living in Kitale, her husband transferred to Nanyuki for work. The eight hour commute between Kitale and Nanyuki led her to search for work in Nanyuki, so that she could spend more time with her husband and their two daughters.
She heard about the vacancy for a new matron at Daraja Academy while visiting her husband, and shortly after became the newest member of the Daraja family! What she likes most about Daraja is how welcoming everyone has been. Mary loves watching movies. Her favorite movie is If Loving you Is Wrong. She also enjoys watching The Haves and the Have Nots.
Welcome to Daraja, Mary!
