The Carr Educational Foundation and Daraja Academy need your help. Please read the following and PLEASE, if the the message makes sense to you – PASS IT ON. Forward this to your friends, post it on the bulletin board  at work and consider making a contribution for girls of Daraja Academy in Rich Harley’s name.

Rich Harley, 59, suffered a heart attack while swimming the entire span of the Brooklyn Bridge only weeks after successfully swimming the Golden Gate Bridge. Rich was raising funds and awareness for Daraja Academy, a totally free high school for girls of poverty in Kenya. With his death, Daraja has lost one of their greatest supporters.

Rich was a dedicated board member and supporter of Daraja and the father of one of the school’s most devoted volunteers, Andy Harley. While we mourn this tragic loss, it is time for the organization and the community who loves him to complete the fundraising for him.

A portion of the donations collected will be passed on to the Harley family to assist with some of the financial burden incurred during the past month. All additional funds will then help with renovations of Daraja Academy’s freshman girls’ dormitory, Richard Harley Hall, to be dedicated in his honor. Future students will know the story of Richard Harley, his belief in them and his boundless generosity. Please help make this possible!

DONATIONS: Please contribute in one of two ways –
1) go to: www.Daraja-Academy.org and donate using PayPal

OR

2) write a check to Daraja Academy and please remember to write “Richard Harley Memorial” in the memo line. Please mail donations to:

Rich was an incredible man, a lifelong learner, with a global conscience and a staggering sense of generosity. At Daraja Academy we believe that honoring Rich by creating “Richard Harley Hall” would make sense to him. It is a great opportunity to retell his story to each group of Daraja Academy newcomers as they arrive at this unique campus and move into their new rooms. The fact that the building baring his name is a dormitory, a place of safety, refuge and growth makes your gift that much more poignant.
