Profile of Daraja’s Business Manager: A Powerful Woman in Action

Hellen Ngunjiri is the Business Manager at Daraja Academy. She did a degree in commerce, certificate in accounts and diploma in human resources. Hellen is married and has one child, a boy who is 14 years and in form one. She is a very caring person. Hellen likes to ensure that everyone around her is cared for and is comfortable and stable as possible.

She was working in a consulting firm where she came to know Miss Jenni [Founder of Daraja Academy] as a client and they became friends. She wanted to move on from where she was working and set up a consultancy, when she approached Miss Jenni it worked out that the best role for her was that of the Business Manager which was a need Daraja had. Hellen believes Daraja is a God sent, it is a bridge not only for students but also for adults in many different ways. The effects of Daraja will be felt by many generations to come.

Hellen loves cooking and her favorite food is rice and liver. If she was made a president of Kenya for a day she would focus on education and children. What motivates her is making a difference. Her greatest fear is not being the right person for the purpose ahead, and her greatest achievement is making people, even those who don’t trust, trust her. She also focuses on helping to make the lives of others better. She likes reading motivational books and her favorite quote is “be the change that you wish to see in the world“ by Mahatma Gandhi.

I chose to write about Hellen’s life because she is a strong woman and I admire her character. She is very motivating and knows how to keep good relationships with other people. Her listening skills make people who know her wish to spend their time talking to her. Her kind heart changes the lives of many people. She believes in making each day better than she found it. She makes the change she wishes to see. Ninety-nine per cent of Daraja girls love her way of life while fifty per cent want to be like her.
