Fiction
“Daddy, daddy I had something, could you…”
The father would retort, “No, I am sorry dear. I have a meeting to attend. I am busy right now.”
“Mom, could you please…”
“Ohhh! I am so so sorry but right now I am occupied. I can’t be available for you dear, see I have a grand party to attend and my hair has to be done, my pedicure gosh! Lots of things. So sorry dear,” the mother would answer.
Most of us think, being a daughter to a rich man is a great blessing to us. No, that is not the way it is for some of us, who have gotten that “great blessing” to be a daughter or son to a billionaire.
Jane’s story is an example of of one of the kids that don’t have their parent’s time, love and attention just because they are busy.
Jane Alexandra, daughter to one of the billionaires in town, James H. Alexander. Jane was born 19th February 1987 – the day that brought a baby to Nancy Alexandra, just like any other mother. Jane was admitted to the best of schools in town, but her life at home wasn’t pretty interesting though. It got worse when she turned a teenager and her parents thought she could handle it all herself.
She could barely have a family talk with her mom and dad. Even during meals they would either be on their files or party invitations. She only used to speak to someone special in her life, her nanny Ann Rose. She would share with her every issue she had, what by then should she be saying to her mom.
But one fine day of the month of July, the biggest tragedy struck Jane’s life when Ann Rose bid farewell to the worldly life. It meant no more mentorship, love and care. Jane was so devastated that she thought of the need of having a friend or friends for that matter.
These friends turned out to be the ones to change Jane’s life for good. Whenever she faced those devastating moments, like when her parents would ignore her, she would speak to her friends and guess what their advice was “there is only one healer, who will cost you less but give you more.” This was the sweet phrase they used to refer to drugs.
She started going to nightclubs after sneaking from home – days, months and years passed till she became the diva of drugs. She was a totally unrescuable drug addict. It was not until she got into a car accident that her “way too busy” parents got alarmed and started sparing time for their daughter, whose health deteriorated and life was messed up.
They made sure she got back to normal by taking her to rehabilitation centres and made sure she was back to normal and sane. It was not till 23rd January 2014 when she was declared fine and ready to start her new phase of life.
She still wears that sad and long face as she explains and narrates her life story. Now she is back to school and life has been getting better and better, for sure. She had all it took to be happy and lead a luxurious life, but what she really wanted and needed was love and attention from her parents.
Sometimes tragedies have to strike for one to realize what they have been losing lately, just like Jane’s parents.
