Donate a Safe Night's Sleep
Do something good this Valentine’s Day!
Do something good this Valentine’s Day: Give a safe night’s sleep.
To the 120 girls living on campus, Daraja Academy isn’t just a school, it’s a home.
For many students, Daraja is the first place they’ve had regular meals, visited a doctor, or talked to a counselor. For some, Daraja is the first place they haven’t had to worry about their safety or being forced into early marriage. For most, it’s the first time in years they’ve been able to just be teenagers, focusing on school and hobbies rather than taking care of a household and younger siblings.
And, for nearly everyone, Daraja is the first place they’ve had their very own beds.
Unfortunately, our bunk beds are extremely old and falling apart. The metal beds are rickety, unstable, and don’t have rails — making the top bunks quite scary. One of the top bunks has actually collapsed onto a girl sleeping on the bottom. Many of the beds no longer stand up on their own, and are wedged between other beds and walls to keep them upright.
The Daraja girls urgently need new, safe beds. Will you help us?
– For $50, you can buy a bedframe.
– For $35, you can buy a mattress.
– For $15, you can buy new sheets and pillows.
This Valentine’s Day, we want to make Daraja a safer, more comfortable environment for every girl that calls it home. Will you give the gift of a safe night’s sleep?
P.S. Last Valentine’s Day, 66 donors raised enough money to purchase a new desk for every single Daraja Academy student. The Daraja girls were absolutely delighted. Check out their video below:
