In 2020 a miracle happened for one more girl.

During the global pandemic, Daraja had one final spot open up. A Daraja graduate found Melvis and brought her to school. Now Melvis needs YOU.

At age 14, Melvis began a desperate fight for her future. During her young life she had already faced

• poverty
• lack of water
• neglect from a mother battling mental illness

But she still managed to carry on with hope in the future.

When she finished 8th grade Melvis scraped together enough money to attend a local high school. But that only lasted one year. School fees were too expensive, and she had to drop out. She worked hard to earn money for a second year, but covid struck—her chance to attend high school vanished for the second time. She didn’t want to give up hope, but what options were left?

Then Melvis met Mary.

Mary was everything Melvis wanted to be: confident, educated, and preparing to go to university. She understood the battle Melvis was fighting because she had gone through it too. Mary was a Daraja Academy graduate and knew exactly where a girl like Melvis belonged.

Now Melvis is starting over as a freshman at Daraja Academy—but this time she’ll make it.
