Students Must Register for Their National Examination With Their Index Numbers

Are you in a daze when it comes to student registration? Daze no more because I have food for thought. In the history of Kenya, the students in their final years both secondary and primary have been encouraged to register for their national examination that is: Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education till now. The system wants to change, but why?
Different students have different abilities despite the class they are in. Indexing is done by the last exam in form three which in most cases is a Mock. Take an example of a ‘weak’ student in class, he/she can easily predict his/her position. This leads to low self-esteem. They see no point in learning. They predict their trial results K.C.S.E. by their index.
On the other hand, it really encourages students to work hard and have a presentable index number. This is them saying that what you get on your Mocks is what you get on your K.C.S.E. says who? The song can always be changed from A, B,C,D to D,C,B, A. The choice is yours on how to change it. You have all the time.
High school has a lot of discipline cases, students transfer from school to school a lot, the why behind it is always personal. When early indexing is done, the students who cause trouble in school and transfer won’t be able to do so and hence discipline cases are reduced. Indexing does not necessarily have to be done according to the students’ performance. There are so many ways of killing a rat. What if the students are issued a random number according to their sitting arrangements or the alphabetical order of their first names? By this I take into consideration that our computer system are programmed to only accept codes and not names.
