The Poor Family

By Irene A. (Form 1)

Fiction

Once upon a time there was widow who live near the river. She had three children- one son and two daughters. Her husband died a long time ago in an accident, so the woman remained alone with her three children. She took her children to the school which was near her home. It was a public school because she did not have enough money to take her children to private school.

One day she woke up very early in the morning and went to find a job in a nearby village. As she was walking in the village, not knowing where to go, a woman came and greeted her. The stranger asked what she wanted, and the widow asked her where she could get a job.

The stranger took her to a rich man who lived in the village, and he gave the widow a job and a little money. The widow was able to pay her children’s school fees.

At school, all of the teachers loved her children because they were disciplined and got high marks on exams. When her daughter reached class eight, the widow knew that she did not have enough money to take her daughter high school.

When the time came for her daughter to do her national examination, they woke up very early in the morning and prayed as usual. They prepared breakfast, and as soon as the daughter took breakfast, she ran to school. She did her exam for three days.

After finishing the exam, the daughter stayed for three weeks waiting for the results to be released. When the results were released, the daughter found out that she had gotten the highest marks in the whole county. They did not believe it! Her mother was very happy, and the daughter got a scholarship to secondary school.
