The Worst Day Of My Life
By Anita K. (Form 1)
Fiction
I was on my last holiday. I was looking for water along a river. I walked for a long time without getting water because there was no rain. On the way, I met my friend looking for firewood.
I greeted him and continued with my journey. Having walked for five hours, I was very tired and sat down to rest.
“Hey!” someone called me.
When I looked back, I saw that she was my mother. She told me to hurry down the river and search for water.
“Hi!” I met my deskmate looking after their animals. She called me and gave me some fruits. I was very happy because it was my first time I saw her after the school closed.
We talked for half an hour and I continued walking down the stream. I waved goodbye to her. Far away, I saw a source of a river. My heart melted with joy. I hurried up without knowing that ‘hurry hurry has no blessings.’ Suddenly, I fell down. My knee was hurt. I started limping like a hyena.
When I reached the river, I heard a lot of hisses. My heart started pumping like the South African tom tom drum. Suddenly, a huge crocodile passed by and dipped into the river. I started trembling like a chameleon on a frail twig.
I went one step forward.
“Ooh!” I stepped on cobra’s tail. It raised his head higher and swayed it. I stood aghast with my mouth agape. My eyes were about to pop out of their sockets. The cobra continued moving his head front and the back.
My eyes started aching. I was unable to see. I fell into the river. My clothes were wet with water. I struggled to get out of water. When I got out, I screamed for help. Nobody heard. I continued screaming for nearly one hour. I was unable also to walk because my eyes were closed.
After half an hour, someone came and held my hand. I asked her name and I recognized her. She was my mother’s friend.
She took me back home. My mother was so afraid. She rushed me immediately to the nearby health centre. When we reached, the nurses were busy but one of them assisted me by washing my eyes. It was so painful that I thought I was not going to be live again.
After being washed, I started receiving my sight. I was given some drugs and instructions. We returned back home and I was okay. After a week, it started aching. I was taken back to the hospital to be washed again.
From that day, I learnt a lesson not to walk down the river during the sunny day. Really, it was the worst day of my life.
