Cycling for Girls Education
By Hayden Bates
On September 22nd, Daraja girls will be cycling in support of their education. We hope that you will join us for this event hosted by Maiyan, either physically or through sponsoring a Daraja team. Our girls will be riding alongside people from all walks of life, unified by a worthy cause: educating and empowering young Kenyan women.
Cyclists will traverse the Loldaiga hills in the expansive Doldol plains, the backyard of Daraja Academy. After finishing a 10 kilometer walk or a 40 or 20 kilometer ride, competitors will enjoy refreshments and, if they are lucky, receive one of our great prizes from many local sponsors.
In addition to cycling and fun activities on Maiyan’s beautiful grounds, we hope to share some of the vision of Daraja Academy with participants. Our students come from 37 ethnic and urban-poor communities across Kenya, and each has a unique story of growth, empowerment, and sisterhood. Participants will have the opportunity to hear more about the impact of Daraja from the girls themselves.
Daraja was founded 10 years ago and is already being recognized on an international scale for its innovative education model. In the 2017 KCSE (Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education) results, Daraja Academy ranked first and produced the best candidate in the district, a girl who then received the Wings to Fly scholarship. With your help, we can expand the Daraja opportunity to more talented young women.
Please consider joining us for this fun event. Visit the website today for more information.
