A Girl's Pain

A Girl's Pain
My fellow people I have seen
wonders in reality
Food Education and Clothing
Is it why I was brought
into this world?
My mother is a drunkard
My father is another one
They keep on drinking
until the last sip
When they get changaa,
welcome
Local beer
welcome
And why not other expensive beers as well?
Late at midnight here mother comes
staggering, not knowing
what is happening around us
She would ask,
why haven’t you gone to bed?
But mum do we go to bed with an empty belly
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Here father comes rolling,
like an angry lion
Who can bear this man
We all creeped into our beds till morning
In the morning we have to wonder,
“where do we get breakfast from?”
We only take a cup of cold water
and take our heels to school
just to be seen by the other pupils like pictures
Our hair is so shaggy
and protruding bellies
Dad have you decided to abandon us like orphans,
Mum how soon have you forgotten?
The girls pain
I wept and
I cried
