Kenya is Not Corrupt

I stand firmly as a Kenyan citizen and  patriotic girl of our nation Kenya to propose that Kenya is not as corrupt as people think. Why do I say this? My first example: I believe no one takes bribes on the road or in any other institution and uses the money outside our beloved country Kenya.

A police officer will take a bribe on the road and at the end of the day he will buy a packet of maize flour with the same bribery from a local shop within our country Kenya. By doing so, he is raising the Kenyan economy because he is still paying tax for the goods which is a great source of revenue in our country.

Another good example is our government, which is viewed  to varying degrees by people in our country today. Many Kenyans are complaining that the government is more corrupt than people expected and that it is stealing their hard-earned money and using it for the wrong reasons; which I say it is not correct to say so. I say this because my fellow Kenyan citizens forget that there is no need of keeping money in the banks and their pockets without bringing any interest or any profit so that they can say that there is no corruption in our country.

Yes, I’m not denying the Kenyan government is using citizens’ money but my question is where do they take the money? A Kenyan leader cannot take sixty million Kenyan shillings to America or any other country and spend all of it there. One leader may take maybe one hundred thousand from citizens’ contribution and use it to buy his home a thirty-two inch screen television, but where does he buy from? He still buys here in Kenya Supermarket and still he raises Kenya’s economy by paying tax for that T.V.

Another example is one Kenyan politician who took citizens’ money from youth development last year which most Kenyans called ‘corruption’ and the youth protested for their rights. Therefore, the politician had to be taken to the court to answer where she had taken the almost sixty five million Kenyan shillings. So an investigation was done and after two weeks it was discovered that the politician had helped a very humble and needy saloonist from Kenya to raise her living standards and this made me  wonder up to now whether helping another Kenyan citizen who needs help from you is what my fellow citizens are calling “corruption.”

And for all these reasons I say that Kenya is not corrupt because people are taking money and using it in our country and hence they are helping our economy, not corrupting our country or stealing money.
