Our Deepest Fear

Our Deepest Fear

By Chelsea Kincheloe

Here at Daraja, the girls love to perform! Here, Edith Achieng (Form 4) performs Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson. This same poem is painted on the walls of the Daraja campus, and can be recited by almost every single Daraja girl.

I saw Edith perform this poem at last year’s 2016 Daraja Fundraiser. At the time, I didn’t know who she was but I was completely mesmerized by her performance. Now, I can share her performance with you.

Listen to Edith’s laugh (toward the beginning). It’s beautiful and full of life, emulating who she is as a person.

She was born to be a poet.

By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant , gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others.
