Public vs. Private Schools

By Anzel M. (Form 1)

Opinion

Parents in Kenya choose private schools over public school because many public schools in Nairobi lack learning materials. This is due to the head teachers selling the materials to other urban areas, making pupils lack the learning materials. Besides, many people believe that public schools have enough materials already, but now the reality is opposite to what people believe. According to me, I think the lack of materials in public schools can be the reason why parents decide to take their children to affordable private school.

Secondly, 90% of the public schools in Kenya lack teachers due to insecurity in areas like Northeastern part. So, poor parents decide to work hard in order for their children to be in private schools.

Thirdly, in recent times in Kenya, many rich people have started private schools that are cheap and academically good. So, parents love to take their children there, where they can get a good, quality education without problems and stress.

Poor parents nowadays work extra hard and believe that not only children from rich families can study in private schools. Poor parents also want their children to feel not discriminated and prove to them that they love them.
