The Mountain
By Christine C. (Form 3)
Fiction
Once upon a time, there lived three siblings, Steve, Geoffrey, and Anita. They lived alone in the small village of Karas after losing their parents in a road accident. Though Anita was a small girl and the last born of her family, she was brave and wiser than her brothers. They lacked basic needs and this makes life difficult for them.
One day, they were sitting at the beautiful farm full of flowers, making their own stories and remembering how their mother used to do this with them. As they continued to sit there, there came an old man. They asked themselves so many questions about the old man. Why did he come? What did he want to tell them? These were the questions looming in their minds.
They were greeted and the old man told them that he knows all the problems they are undergoing since the death of their parents. He told them to go a certain mountain which was very far, about 30 kilometers away, from their home. It was believed that on top of the mountain there was the water of blessings and when you get that water and keep it in your house you will live to be rich, forever.
They wondered how they will get there. So many people had lost their lives in the process of climbing the mountain. The old man told them that it doesn’t matter how far or high the mountain is what matter is how you will get the water of blessings. They were told that when they reach they are supposed to climb the mountain without looking backward no matter how hard it is.
The two boys did not want to go and risk their lives since they thought that the old man was lying to them. Anita was ready to go and face all the challenges in her process to get the water of blessings. They warned Anita not to go but Anita had already made up her mind and set goals to achieve.
Early the next day she woke up at dawn and started her journey without any food or her brothers knowing. She walked for about thirty kilometers and she started to get tired. She tried so hard until she saw the mountain. This gave her many reasons to reach the mountain.
When she reached the base of the mountain she prayed to God to give her strength to climb the mountain. She climbed and she got very tired. She almost fell but finally she reached the top of the mountain, took the water and got back to her brothers. Her brothers were shocked to see their sister coming home with water and they were very happy. From that day they lived a happy life.
