Daraja is in the swing of third term already! This week, the girls hit the field for friendly football matches, played games with some new friends and wished two of their classmates a safe journey as they traveled to represent Daraja at a conference.

GROOTS – Leila and Grace were selected to attend a conference on the new Kenyan constitution put on by GROOTS (Grassroots Organizations Operating Together in Sisterhood). The pair traveled to Nakuru for the event and will be back on campus this weekend to share everything they learned with their peers.

WISH – In their women’s empowerment class, the Form 3 girls talked about their whole selves with Teacher Carol and how they can ask themselves questions using the 5 Ws to learn more about themselves and their characters.

This week Jenni lead the Form 2 girls in a career counseling session. The girls completed questionnaires about their interests to determine their career ‘personalities’ – realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising or conventional. Lillian said she was surprised to see how high her artistic score was, she had never considered herself in a creative role before.

Form 1 talked about building self esteem with Teacher Peris.

ActionAid Workshops  – Part of the Daraja campus is used by Danish NGO ActionAid as a regional training center. Today, some of their volunteers worked with the Daraja girls on singing workshops, games and a “Stomp”-style percussion jam –during which Pascalina busted a spoon in two she was playing with such vigor! Even Steven – the son of Daraja’s housekeeper, Beatrice – was there, banging a spoon on a desk leg along with the girls.
