Dear Future Dora at The World Bank

By Dora (Form 2)

Fiction

Dear Future Dora at The World Bank,

How was life in university? What does it feel like to be a high school graduate? What exactly drove you to be the person you are right now? I hope you are moving on so well, although life is never smooth. Remember, there is nothing like a smooth mountain. You know that despite everything you pass through  do what the clock does: keep moving.

Despite working at the World Bank, where money flows in and out with ease, still hold on to your virtue. I know you want to eliminate corruption in your community and your country at large, so live life as an example. Do not practice any form of corruption yourself. I know money is very precious, but do not sell your virtues in exchange for money. No amount of money, even sterling pounds, can buy your values.

Here is the way to be an agent of change: start by changing the small village at your home, rise in the rank, and finally you will be working on how to change the globe. Start by stopping the little forms of corruption in Waterloo campus first, for it is through the little things that big things develop. Always leave each day better than you found it and live each day at a time.

When you wake up in the morning, look into the mirror and if you don’t like what you see only you can change it. Believe in yourself. Have faith in your abilities. Without a humble confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. Always remember this, life is a bag, you only take out what you’ve put in.

Love,

15 year old Dora
