Democracy

People should be free to pick their leaders.
Democracy is a feasible alternative under the Kenyan constitution. Kenya is supposed to be a democratic country but lately it is as if democracy is being abolished for dictatorship. The role of elders in our communities and local politics have come into sharp focus. People in power in some areas have began to make their own final word on who should be supported or abandoned in the political bids.
But now I am asking myself: “Is this fair?” The power should be in the people’s hands not their elders when it comes to deciding political leadership. Can they not understand the meaning of democracy? Even though we elect them, they are never fair. They do not understand that when in power, we expect them to serve us equally and fairly. We want democracy in our country, a country full of love, care and passion. Whatever is agreed upon, should be of value to the people and have the capacity to propel them from the marginalization that causes them to continue to suffer.
