Human Rights

Human rights are the rights that humans acquire from the moment they are born. They are acquired despite your gender, colour, country or tribe, because human rights are universal. We have the rights of an arrested person, the rights of marginalised groups. Nobody has the right to take away somebody’s life. Nobody should interfere with somebody’s right to privacy or take away somebody’s right to express their own opinions.
Judges can refer to human rights law in court, in order to give fair judgement. Therefore, human rights law should be well-taken care of, as it plays a big role for the citizens. We should ask ourselves what could happen without human rights?
It is very unfair that human rights today are measured by the level of somebody’s wealth. People with higher occupations are treated differently than those who are from humble backgrounds. Human rights, such as the right to equality before the law, have really not been put into consideration since corruption has taken the better part of the world. Somebody’s right is something you have to lay down some money for, to be put to consideration. A case is presented in court and simply because the culprit is rich, they are quickly released or the case is dismissed. A poor person is mistreated and can often not get their rights because they are poor.
The human rights which have been forgotten completely worldwide are the rights of an arrested person. These days, the arrested people are treated in a ruthless and brutal way that shows they do not have any rights. The people who treat them that way forget that these people are just like them. They are supposed to be treated differently in certain ways, without the freedom of movement, but their basic rights remain the same. Many policemen take the law into their own hands and act ruthlessly towards arrested people, violating their human rights.
People forget that human rights are not dependent on whether you are a man or a woman, only that you are a human being. Some people have undermined women and taken away their right to own property, right to privacy, and right to their own opinion. Today, the world has become a place where even gender matters, where someone cannot be allowed to rule a state simply because she is a woman.
The moment has come for the world to understand and realize the importance of human rights, and to take caution before treating people differently. Human rights acts as a uniting factor that brings people together, because they are universal and everyone gets them freely from the moment they are born.
We should take a step back, go back to the drawing board, and remind ourselves of our first love: development in our own nation. That will make us understand the importance of granting everyone their rights — as we should, according to human rights.
